Need a simple way to kick off the New Year? Try this New Year art activity and make a simple banner!
The holidays are exhausting. No doubt you have Christmas decorations to put away, bags to unpack from traveling, or even closets to organize!
Set up this easy activity in a minute or two and keep kids entertained while you tackle something on your "to do" list nearby.
Kids can draw, add stickers, and create! This is a great activity to have kids work on together. Just give each child a number that is theirs to decorate.

Instructions for this New Year Banner art activity
- Cut a large piece of paper off your paper roll and tape it to the floor (or a table or wall)
- Draw the numbers for the new year!
- Give kids markers and stickers (or whatever other type of art tools you want to use) and encourage them to start decorating.
It doesn't get easier than that!
Why use markers?
I know, crayons seem like a better choice for toddlers and preschoolers, but markers are just more vibrant and move a lot easier. Using chunky markers or dot markers also helps kids cover more surface area so they don't have to work as hard to cover the whole page. When you're making a banner, you want the designs to stand out. Using bright markers helps kid's designs pop!
Another fun option to create with are paint sticks! If you haven't tried them, I highly recommend them!

Why celebrate the New Year with kids?
We love to end the year with a bang and host a New Year's Eve party with our kids. After that celebration to say goodbye to the old year, it's nice to do something simple to welcome in the new year! Doing some simple activities helps kids make sense of what's going on and can be a fun way to talk about numbers and dates too!
This week we'll be sharing a few other easy ways to celebrate the New Year with kids!
