Fun With Olympic Rings

Continuing on with Olympic themed activities - I couldn't pass up the opportunity to have some fun with the Olympic Rings.

I first printed out a few copies of this template for our activity.  I would have liked to use bingo markers for coloring in the "dots" on each of these rings, but could not find any at our local $1 store. 

Using a color copy of the Olympic rings as a guide we dotted & colored in each of the rings.

We took a small break in our activity for lunch and had Spaghetti-O's (to keep with our "ring" theme) and saved our "dessert" (M&M's) for the next part of the activity.

Using a muffin tin (found at the $1 store), we placed pieces of paper with small colored rings draw on, in each of the holes (adding the color orange to the 5 olympic colors because I didn't feel like picking out all of the orange M&M's before starting).

Sort the M&Ms by color.

Because we did not need the orange M&Ms for the project - these were the ones we snacked on while sorting.

Next, and using your previously colored rings as your guide, place M&Ms on rings.

When finished, be sure to grab a quick picture - it won't stay pretty, or should I say, "in tact" for long.

This activity is a great way to teach, talk about, and test your toddlers recognition of colors (as well as provide a valid excuse for buying & eating more M&M's).
