Easter Play with Kinetic Sand

Over two months ago we welcomed a new little one into our family. Since then I have been trying to figure out how to stay sane with a newborn and three other kids. One thing that I try and do every day is set up a simple connecting activity to do with one or more of my kids.

Yesterday we pulled out the kinetic sand and some plastic Easter eggs and I let the kids start exploring!

I typically buy kinetic sand from Amazon and put it into an airtight storage bucket so that it lasts for a long time.

Once we added the plastic eggs into the kinetic sand I also found some colorful beads and threw those in too!

Open ended sensory activities like this one give kids room to use their imaginations and their own creativity. My 3-year-old sat at the kitchen table for 30 minutes while I made dinner and just had a blast digging in the sand, filling up the plastic eggs, digging for beads, putting the beads in the eggs, etc.

Have you ever played with kinetic sand before?

It has the most unique texture that is addicting once you get started playing with it! It can also be a bit messy (though not as messy at regular sand).

When we play with kinetic sand our rules are simply that we keep the sand in the bucket. If kids start being goofy and making sand go out of the bucket, it just goes away for the day. Easy peasy. After awhile my kids stop bothering to get it on the ground because they want to play with it and do less cleaning!
