Easy Colorful Paper Towel Snowflakes

Winter time means snow and snowflakes and curling up by the fire with hot cocoa. We have been on vacation for the past few weeks in the snow and it has made me really excited for our first Weekly Virtual Book Club book in January!

Paper towel snowflakes are so easy to make for kids of all ages and they look beautiful once they are up hanging!

MATERIALS NEEDED FOR PAPER TOWEL SNOWFLAKES

DIRECTIONS FOR PAPER TOWEL SNOWFLAKES

We first made colorful paper towel creations when we were introduced to them in the The Curious Kid's Science Book: 100+ Creative Hands-On Activities for Ages 4-8 by Asia Citro.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Then we fold the paper towels like you would fold a square piece of paper to make a snowflake. Usually the older kids and grown ups do the folding and then the little kids can help with cutting and snipping.

 

We love researching different ways to cut snowflakes before we get started so that we end up with a big variety of different shaped snowflakes.

These easy paper towel snowflakes are fun to hang up on your windows and let the light shine through them. We have also made colorful coffee filter spin art snowflakes before when we haven't had paper towels.

Paper towels can be a bit delicate depending on the brand that you buy, so make sure you buy a sturdy brand! It is totally fine to secure a piece of paper towel with tape if it rips as well.

In this activity we explored how water changes the spread of color and makes art!

The kids squirted watercolors or drew with markers onto the dry paper towels and onto the wet paper towels and made some predictions about what they thought might happen!

This colorful science activity got the kids thinking, making predictions, and problem solving!
