Puffy Paint Rocket Craft

This week we are enjoying Space Week! Yesterday we shared a simple astronaut photo craft and a simple flag craft (that kids can wave around when they land on the moon!).

Today we are super excited to combine our new favorite activity (creating with puffy paint) and add in some rockets to make puffy paint rockets!

Here's what you'll need to make a puffy paint rocket craft...

2 tbsp salt
2 tbsp self rising flour
2 tbsp water
food coloring
white cardstock cut in the shape of a rocket
microwave
red and orange streamers or tissue paper
scissors
flag stickers (optional)
tape

Prep ahead

To get started you'll want to cut your cardstock into the shape of a rocket. We made ours big so that we could cover it with a lot of puffy paint!

Next prep your puffy paints! We made red and blue puffy paint for our rockets and then left one bowl of puffy paint colorless to make white.

Here's how to make a puffy paint rocket...

Once your puffy paint is ready, start painting your rocket! You will want to add the paint on in globs. The thicker it is, the more it will puff up! I try and encourage kids to cover the entire rocket in color!

This activity was so much fun that I had to join in too and make my own!

Once your rocket is painted, stick it in the microwave for 30 seconds and watch it puff up!

Remove the rocket from the microwave and let it cool. It may start curling up on the sides so I like to turn it face down before it dries completely and place something a bit heavy on it.

Add some red and orange streamers or tissue paper with some tape to make fire at the end of the rocket and it will be ready to blast off!! You can also add a flag sticker!
