Oobleck has been a favorite activity at our house for years. The best part is that it is simple to make and keeps kids entertained for longer than it takes to set it up.
Here's what you need:
- Cornstarch
- Water
- Baking pan or large plastic tub
- Food coloring (or liquid water colors)
How do you make oobleck?
Oobleck is so easy to make.
All you need to do is combine 2 cups of cornstarch and 1 cup of water. Then MIX!
To make rainbow oobleck, we made a bigger batch of oobleck (I think we tripled the amount) and then divided it into five little bowls. Then we added a different color of food coloring to each bowl and mixed!
Finally we poured some of each color of oobleck onto a large baking pan to create our rainbow oobleck playtime.
Oobleck is one of our favorite easy sensory play activities for toddlers.
It is taste safe. This means that if kids eat it accidentally, it isn't a big deal.
It also has the coolest texture. Oobleck is a non-newtonian fluid. This means that it acts like a liquid when being poured, but like a solid when a force is acting on it.
You can tell from Annabelle's face, she's pretty intrigued.
Sensory play is such an awesome way to let kids explore new textures, colors, and materials.
