Brownies are one of my favorite treats because they are simple to make and can be turned into all sorts of things! Do you remember our Spooky Halloween Brownie Houses?

Today we're going to try a new brownie house variation and share an easy holiday treat - Christmas Brownie Houses!

What's a snacktivity?

That's a great question! A snacktivity is exactly what it sounds like. It is a snack plus an activity.

Typically in our home it means that we did some sort of activity to make the snack or treat. You don't just eat a snacktivity, you put it together, and typically enjoy doing it too. You take action!

These Christmas Brownie Houses are such an easy Christmas treat to make. I guarantee you will love them!

How to Make Christmas Brownie Houses

Back during October our Toddler Approved friends went a little crazy with the spooky brownie houses.

Everyone said they were SO MUCH EASIER than other types of candy houses and there was no frustration because they couldn't fall down.

We don't need frustration when it comes to snacktivities. Snacktivities are supposed to be fun and teach a simple skill.

Our Christmas Brownie Houses allow kids to work on hand-eye coordination as they pick up candies and put them onto the icing. They can also work on making patterns with the candies. Scroll down to read about how to make these cute holiday treats.

The best part of this activity is that kids of all ages can do this semi-independently.

Materials Needed for Brownie Houses:

2 boxes of Ghirardelli brownie mix (made as indicated on the box)
White store bought spray icing
Variety of candies
Baking sheet (with edges)- 11x17
Plates
Plastic knife
Butter or Cooking Spray to grease the pan

Instructions:

Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F.
Mix up brownie mix and then pour the batter into an 11x17 baking ban.
Bake the brownies for 25-30 minutes and remove when the fork comes out without any brownie goo on it.
Let the brownies cool.
Cut the brownies into house shapes (square and a triangle) and place a house on each plate.
Ice the brownies with spray icing. I like to put a border of icing around each house.
Give each child some candies to decorate their house. Sampling is encouraged!
Once completed, you can start eating!

In this activity, kids were able to use fine motor skills to pick up and place items on the candy houses. They also used hand-eye coordination to put items where they wanted them to go.
