A sounds scavenger hunt is a fun way to get outside and play while also developing your child's listening skills and observation skills!

Kids need to be able to listening to instructions to help them follow directions at school, at home, and out in the community. Life is filled with opportunities for listening.

Kids who are able to listen will be more successful and happy.

Listening skills are best learned through simple and playful activities, like this sound hunt!

Sound Hunt Materials Needed:

How to Set Up a Sound Hunt:

1. Go outside in your neighborhood or to a park/outdoor space.

2. Give each kid a paper & a marker/pencil.

* I also gave everyone a clipboard.

3. Have everyone find a spot on the grass or somewhere in nature and just listen for what they can hear.

* Younger preschoolers/toddlers can work together with an adult or big sibling. Adult can write while the toddler/preschooler tells them what they hear.

4. Write/draw the things you hear on your paper to create your own hunt page.

5. Play! Hunt for the sounds and cross off each sound that you find!

* Big kids can each make a sound hunt for each other and then swap clipboards!

We love to let kids ride their scooters around or rollerblade as they hunt. This way they get their bodies moving in fun ways too!

I love finding ways that I can get all four of my kids engaged in an activity! Having a big age spam makes that tricky sometimes, so you need to be creative.

This activity was a hit with all four of them (ages 4-12).
