Easiest Pumpkin Shirts to Make

I love having festive t-shirts for my kids to wear during holiday seasons! This simple DIY activity is a cool way to get kids involved with making their own Pumpkin shirts!

Want to turn this into an easy costume? Just add a green beanie hat with the pumpkin shirt and your child can be a pumpkin for Halloween! I love to have simple costumes like this on hand for when my toddler or preschooler undoubtedly decides that the costume they picked isn't comfortable.

These easy pumpkin shirts only need a few materials!

GRAB THE PUMPKIN STENCIL

Supplies needed:

Orange t-shirts (we got ours at Hobby Lobby)
Black acrylic paint
Freezer paper
Iron
Paint brush
Small cup or bowl for paint
Pumpkin Stencil
Piece of cardboard or cereal box
Scissors
Pencil

Instructions for making pumpkin shirts

Gather all your materials
Print out your pumpkin stencil
Cut out the black pumpkin face
Cut a piece of freezer paper to fit the first t-shirt. You want it to completely cover the shirt.
Trace the black pumpkin face onto the freezer paper and then cut it out.
Center the freezer paper and pumpkin face stencil on the t-shirt.
Heat the iron.
Place the heated iron on top off the freezer paper and go over the entire t-shirt until the whole piece of freezer paper and the design is sealed to the t-shirt.
Place a piece of cardboard or a cereal box in between the front and back of the t-shirt.
Give your child a cup of black acrylic paint and a paint brush. **Make sure kids wear clothing that is ok to get messy. Acrylic paint can stain.
Encourage your child to paint over the orange face with black paint until it is completely covered.
Let the paint dry a bit and then pull the the freezer paper off the t-shirt.
When the shirt has dried (couple of hours or next day) use a dry iron and a thin piece of fabric over the painted area, to set the painting with a hot iron. Make sure your iron is not on steam.

Washing Instructions: When washing, hand-wash the pumpkin t-shirts using a gentle detergent and then let them air dry.

The pumpkin shirts look so good when they're done! You could use this same technique to make ghost shirts, monster shirts, or another other favorite Halloween themed shirt!
