Setting this up is so simple! Here's how to get prepped for this indoor baking soda science activity:
- Pour baking soda into your large sensory bin. Spread out the baking soda to fill the base of the bin.
- Put vinegar into several cups and add a few drops of liquid watercolors. Stir.
- Add jumbo droppers (or pipettes or turkey basters) into the cups of vinegar and you're ready to start exploring.
- Give each child a cup of vinegar and a dropper and they're ready to start squirting the vinegar onto the baking soda!
The colorful fizzy eruptions are so fun to watch!
Not only is this a fun science activity, but it's also a great way to help kids build their fine motor skills as they squeeze and suck up the vinegar using their droppers and turkey basters.

I love smaller fizzy eruptions and bigger ones! If I need some time to get things done in the kitchen, I love to set this up for kids to do as their "work" while I get my work done.
