Peter Rabbit Small World {via Make, Do & Friend}

Hey guys, I'm Charlotte from Make, Do & Friend where I share creative play and imaginative learning ideas with my 2.5yo son Vincent. I know Kristina loves activities inspired by kid's books so I'm really excited to be sharing a little storytime sensory tub with you guys today.

We recently read 'The Tale of Peter Rabbit' by Beatrix Potter and fell in love with the gorgeous illustrations and mischievous characters. I loved these stories when I was little (my mom still calls me 'Flopsy Bunny' despite the fact I'm in my mid twenties with a kid of my own now!)

I decided to put together a garden tub inspired by the story...

I had hopes of finding a little Peter Rabbit toy to go with this tub, but as is always the way, I couldn't find one when I needed it (no doubt I will come across a hundred now!) - instead I copied out one of the pictures and made a little puppet prop for some creative retelling.

I covered our tub with brown parcel paper and filled it with soil, then we went on a hunt for some gardening props and tools - we live in a second floor flat with not so much as a window box, so this was quite a feat!

I had some packets of seeds and beans that we planted in rows (using a coffee stirrer as plant beds) - the owner of our local garden centre gave us the tiny terracotta pots when I mentioned I was buying the soil to make a play garden, perfect for little bunnies to hide in!

A teeny wheelbarrow from our Construction Site Small World and some brass buttons (in the story Peter gets the buttons of his jacket caught in a fence as he is trying to escape Mr McGregor!)

"...but his sobs were overheard by some friendly birds, who flew to him in great excitement and implored him to exert himself."
