I am SO excited because we've had several photo shoots lately to capture our growing family and I think I may be getting close to picking some photos for this year's holiday photo card. You can find a sneak peak of one recent photo session of our new baby Ryan here on my friend Wendy's blog. In the image below you can also see our first picture as a family of five. I love photos! Especially at the holidays!
Do you send out holiday cards?
I have been writing holiday cards since I was a teenager... don't ask me why I started that early. Now that life is a lot busier, I absolutely love ordering my holiday cards online. I can sit on my couch and browse through loads and loads of designs while eating ice cream and watching TV and I don't have to go to multiple stores to buy something or create anything myself (I've tried that and it turned out terribly!).
Last year we ordered holiday cards from Minted. Minted is a global community of independent graphic designers and an online store that prints and sells the best of their designs in the form of paper goods. Their purpose "is to uncover exceptional design from all over the world and bring this to savvy consumers who won't accept anything else." What a great philosophy!
For our holiday cards last year we chose the red ribbon happiness holiday photo card design in an icy blue color...
And I loved how our card turned out (see below).

When holiday cards look great I am even more motivated to get them sent out asap.
This year we are ordering cards from Minted again, so I have been having a fabulous time looking through all 597 designs!
Minted has a great search tool that makes it easy to filter through all of the designs and just look at what you want- cards for 1, 2, or 3+ photos, cards in a variety of formats, cards in higher and lower price ranges, etc. There are also several color options to pick from and paper options and even shapes. Color is important to me because I like to make sure that the color scheme of the card doesn't totally clash with our family photo.
What's most important to you in a holiday card? Price? Layout? Number of photos? Colors? Popularity? Greeting?
Today I'm going to share a few of my favorite Minted designs with you. I'd love to hear which ones are your favorites too!
I kind of think the new stocking holiday cards are absolutely adorable if you're announcing a new addition to your family in your holiday card.
On the front you can announce your new addition and on the back you can share other family photos, a brief message, or just have a design and hand write a note.
The wish banner holiday postcard is a wonderful design if you're wanting to use multiple photos and send out a postcard style card.
I typically like to use the cards with General Holiday greetings just in case I get behind in the busyness of December and mail them out after Christmas instead of beforehand (which is always a goal... but it sometimes isn't met).
I also like the beautifully penned holiday card design because it is another simple postcard option (that could also be turned into a folded card) and it has space on the back where I can include a note about our family (without having to write an entire newsletter)... or I could just add an extra picture.
Another cool and more unique card option is the Minibook™. I had never seen these before and LOVE them. They are like mini family newsletters. The Minibook™ card contains 3-6 photos in a 5” x 7” booklet-style card and is bound with chic grommets. Each section has space for text.
The one pictured below is the vintage peppermint holiday minibook.
I can already tell I am going to have a really hard time picking the design I want to use this year. There are too many gorgeous options!
How about you? What's your plan for holiday cards? Do you make them, buy them, or avoid them?
In addition to sending out holiday cards, I LOVE to receive them and LOVE to craft and create with them once they've been displayed all of December and January.
Here are a few ways that you can use holiday cards after the holidays:
